Intentions and attitudes of officers in charge of disaster waste management（DWM, hereinafter）are deemed critical to further enhance DWM preparedness action in local authorities. This paper aimed to clarify the effectiveness of workshop training method on development of psychological ownership and positive attitudes towards DWM preparation. A one day training workshop was jointly held with Hyogo Prefectural Government, in which participants discussed issues of disaster waste management/preparedness actions in pre- and post- disaster period, and solutions to overcome those issues. Outputs of these discussions together with the results of questionnaire surveys undertaken before and after the workshop were analyzed. Results suggested that while workshop training method enhance sense of knowledge and positive attitude towards DWM preparation, it will not necessarily enhance sense of control and psychological ownership on DWM preparation, unless carefully designed.
